Free thesis framework giveaway

by Lon on July 17, 2009

I’ve got one free Thesis Framework license ($87 usd value) to give away. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a highly flexible and SEO (search engine optimized) wordpress framework / theme that helps power SolarCrash. I’ve already got a ‘developers’ license, so one lucky reader can also benefit from all that Thesis has to offer.

Just leave a comment and subscribe to this blog (enter your email in the box on the right) and I’ll randomly pick an entry in a few days.

And yes, I’ll start regularly blogging again here soon.

SolarCrash Theme

by Lon on May 8, 2009

I think I’ve been sporting this theme for two years now, and plan on transitioning to something new in the coming week.

I was archiving it just in case, and figured I’d also post the wordpress theme here for anyone who’d like to use it or tweak it.

I’m calling it pomocrash – as the bulk of the work was done by Adam of pomomusings.com

I adapted it by adding technically a third widgetized sidebar above the two column sidebars, removing some of the icons so it’s a bit quicker, taking out some of the shading for a cleaner look, and some slight font adjustments in the template.

There’s a psd file that you can use to edit the header if you’d like.  I’d also recommend installing ‘subscribe to comments‘ and ‘twitter-tools‘ plugins for starters.  The random photos on the sidebar is through a flickr badge inserted as a widget.

You can download here

Hope this helps, feel free to let me know if you’ve got questions.

Random help…

by Lon on August 6, 2008

Here’s what I’m looking for right at the moment

- For the event, still looking for a dancer or a crew, with an urban flavor, likely break or pop&lock

- Photographer – Just about everyone I know is an amateur photographer these days, I’m looking for someone who hasn’t hit it big (since I can’t afford them), but would like the opportunity to add something interesting to their portfolio

- Possibly a DJ – same deal, willing to do it for charity.

- Images – Send me your most thought provoking images that you’ve discovered that provoke your imagination – anything that sparks creativity, spirituality, hope, despair, anything goes.

- Does anyone know if there’s a plugin of some type for wordpress, or some way to trick out my sight, so that the solarcrash.com home page can go to an event page, without moving or changing my current link addresses on my blog?  it might be a temporary thing.

- Anyone aware of any good corporate sponsors for funding, art supplies, or food?

- Good chalkers you know of?

And the question of the day, something I think I’ve blogged loosely on in the past

What would it look like if heaven collided with earth today?

Top Wordpress Bling

by Lon on December 11, 2007

I think it’s been about six-months since I’ve began dabbling in blogging via wordpress. I must say that it’s been frustrating at times figuring out how things work since I’m not as technically savvy as I thought I was.

Overall, thought it’s not all perfect, I think the learning curve has finally leveled out and things should be smooth going forward. As much as I love google products, it sure is better than what blogger.com is offering.

I thought I’d share the bling that’s been powering Solar Crash

Themes (I’m drawn to three column themes, and update every few months)

- Cleaker
- Genki
- Mandingo current theme in use

Ads that help pay for my webhosting

- Google Adsense
-

Top Plugins

- Akismet for spam protection
- Articles, which easily generates a list of post titles on a page (see Articles link above)
- Category Cloud widget, as seen on the sidebar
- cforms II, a highly advanced contact form – you can try it on the contact link above
- Del.icio.us widget, See the latest links I’ve been bookmarking on del.icio.us
- Feedburner/Feedsmith, channels my feedlinks to feedburner as the primary SolarCrash RSS
- If you liked that, generates random links to related posts under each post
- Picasa Photos, displays random photos on the sidebar from Picasa Web Albums
- Subscribe to Comments, this one is invaluable to interaction notifying commenters of responses
- Twitter Tools, synchronizes twitter updates
- Wordpress Database backup, automatically emails a backup of the blog daily

There are a few other plugins that I use but I haven’t upgraded them to permanent status yet.

Other Items

Plugoo is something I’ve been testing out recently that allows for instant chatting with readers
Blogrush helps with contextual traffic generation
Shelfari, shows random books from my library
1and1.com my current webhost

That’s all for now. If you know of other tools I should really be using, please let me know.

Wordpress 2.2

by Lon on May 16, 2007

testing, testing.  I’ve just upgraded this blog to the latest release of wordpress v2.2

I’m hoping this stops the theme from reverting back to the default theme at random times.

Technology can be such a pain sometimes.  I’m still figuring out how to make the most of it without it bogging me down at the same time.

Updates…

by Lon on March 20, 2006

I just added a couple of my feeds to the sidebar.

Flickr badge allows for a glance at your photos online randomly or chronologically. I’ve got it set on random right now.

And Del.icio.us if you don’t know already is a great online bookmarking/tagging tool. Using ‘link rolls‘ the latest links as i scour the web are dynamically placed on the sidepanel as well.

Finally…

by Lon on January 13, 2006

I’ve been waiting for ages to find a new home for my reflections… and looks like here it is. It’ll be a while before i fully transition… (I’m waiting for the blogger->voxtropolis migration tool) as for now i’ll just be fiddling with features with random posts.

Until then see A Disciple’s Journal for the archives.

Thanks so much to those who have worked so hard to put this all together!
