When love comes down…

Solar Crash: Love Comes Down
by Chris Luk Photography

Solar Crash: Love Comes Down
Collaborative art project responding to “What must love be” by Claudia Hung

What can I say?  I think it was another phenomenal night!  Of the many projects I’m on, the Solar Crash events are definitely one of my favorites.  I’ve written a few thoughts on creating these spaces before here and here.

Some additional reflections…

I intentionally halved the number of performers and artists from the last event and it created a tighter more focused evening that was just as enjoyable

I loved when random people came up to me wondering how on earth something like this comes together

There’s nothing like people from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, and faiths coming together to creating something beautiful, even if momentary

People keep asking me if I’m an artist, I love writing, but I’d say my craft is more in helping unleash the creative potential of others

I did a once-in-a-lifetime spoken word piece for my wife that night (totally out of my comfort zone)

It was awesome being able to meet in person many people that I had been networked through facebook

Hearing the rumor… “I think he’s a pastor…”

Toronto is brimming with undiscovered creativity

The internet circa 1981

by Lon on January 29, 2009

We had our first web team meeting last night.  I think we’re all totally excited by the possibilities.  No one’s in it for money or glory, we simply want to bring this project into wonderful existence.

It’s definitely a different vibe than most of the other work that I do.  I rarely lead stuff that I have next to no competence on, but it’s going to be an interesting journey ahead.

Currently we’re looking at using a mysql backend with third party api’s over a ruby on rails framework and an ajax-ified front-end… Does that make any sense to anyone?  I’m barely grasping it all too.

Here’s a news report on the early stages of the internet.  Developers described it as something they just wanted to create, even though there was probably no money in it.

The Solar Crash Event…

by Lon on July 2, 2008

This summer we’ll be taking Solar Crash offline for a night.

I just secured a night club for an evening celebrating creativity and spirituality.

All proceeds will be going to drilling a well and providing clean water.

I still need help of every type imaginable.  Artists, thinkers, musicians, organizers, designers, talent scouts, poets, planners, craftspeople, you name them, i need them.

(I’m not looking for people who’ve made it big, are signed on labels, or would be charging for something like this, i’m hoping to give undiscovered talent an opportunity to contribute to something bigger.)

If you can help, or know someone who might be able to, drop me a note.

You can find some more preliminary info on the event here.
