I was out from 2am-7am yesterday feeding the homeless. A new good friend and I handed out 150 sandwiches and 200 bottles of water. Was there something better we really could have been doing with our time?
You can read a bit more about homelessness in Toronto in this report from the city itself.
Reports vary in terms of how homelessness is measured, some say 4,000 others say 40,000 homeless individuals. Either way there’s only enough for about 3,000 people in shelters. And imagine those winters.
Even the ‘middle class’ are being driven out of the downtown core with gentrication and skyrocketing living costs.
What’s an individual in a big city like Toronto suppose to do about all of this?
Yesterday I had breakfast with someone downtown to talk about God… lots of great questions, there’s not much I enjoy more than journeying alongside with people.
Dan Kimball recently wrote the book “They like Jesus, but they don’t like the church“; but I find what might be closer to the hearts of people (at least in Toronto), is they like the teachings of Jesus, but they don’t know why they need to believe in the reality of Jesus. Your thoughts?
I wandered the streets, and just took the city in before settling down to get some work done. I bumped into Donald along the way. For a street dude, he sure glows.

This is a shot of the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum). I love how they’ve overtly clashed tradition and innovation in the building.

If you want to know more about the city of Toronto and faith, an ebook was just published called Toronto the Good. link via Yuling

Some random questions recently on my mind…
- What’s the deal with hard-covered books?
- How do I pray for daily bread, when I’ve got over a week’s worth in my kitchen?
- Why can’t the government do my taxes for me?
- When will Hillary finally quit?
- Who’s gonna ride your wild horses?
- What would pastors do if they weren’t allowed to speak on Sundays?
- What do homeless people think of me?
- Why do they tell us x-rays are harmless and make us put on those heavy vests?
- Jesus seemed like a fairly earthy guy. What technologies would he be using today?
