Favorite films…

by Lon on June 12, 2008

I just got tagged by Tony – I never do these tagging things, but here we go.

Off the top, my favorite films

- The Shawshank redemption – Best ending ever

- Forrest Gump – Forrest talking about his boy – He’s so smart Jenny…

- Braveheart

- The Transformers (original) – “One shall stand, one shall fall”

- The Joy Luck Club – Yes I confess – just about every scene makes me weep like a baby

- Gattaca (just added) – underrated movie that speaks to all of us who dare to persevere

- Crash – Way better intertwining plots and subtexts than pulp fiction

- Remember the Titans – “You’re crippling them for life”

- Requiem for a dream – An artistic gem – just about puked from the hollowness at the end

- The Matrix & Terminator 2 – both overplayed – but still epic

- The Lion King – the opening scene was so glorious I teared…

And I guess my five tag’s will be…

Ray
Marty
Brian & Ina
Obahsomah

Jackie Chan’s top ten stunts

by Lon on March 21, 2008

It’s Good Friday. Today we reflect upon Jesus sacrificing his life for our hope of redemption.

Jackie Chan. He sacrifices his life for our amusement. This dude’s insane.

Solar Crash: 2007 round-up

by Lon on January 9, 2008

This past year was interesting year in blogging for me.

After blogging on and off for several years, I really picked things up in 2007.  voxtropolis was a great launching pad for me, and moving over to solarcrash.com midway last year was a learning experience as well.

After 222 posts in 2007, some reasons I continue to blog

My brain’s a mess, writing helps bring some clarity to the madness going on upstairs

Having a searchable archive of my thoughts has been invaluable in preaching/teaching and conversation

Voice – I always hope to give voice to those who might share my heart

Networking – It’s been such a blessing being able to connect with so many incredible individuals through this blog

Here are some noteworthy posts of 2007

Silence in the church
The challenge of preaching today
Canada vs. the U.S.
Leaders need community
Leaders take responsibility
High school all over again
Risky Leadership
Creation Re-Imagined
My moonwalking baby
Less is more
Reflections on Speaking
Lifecycle Principles
I declare no-church sunday

Solar Crash: November round-up

by Lon on December 7, 2007

It always feels odd when people I interact with give me these glowing remarks about who I am and something I’ve just done. The pervading thought in my mind is often how the substance of those comments are so very temporal.

I’ve likely been far better and been far worse, but people gauge you based on what they see of you upfront, or most recently.

I feel the same way with blogs. Current blogging structures are all ordered in reverse chronological order giving the random reader the most recent post rather than the most significant post or posts that resonate with the heart of the blog.

Anyhow, I’m going to begin doing roundups of my best posts each month and year from now on and hopefully that helps give this blog a bit more flare and identity.

Here are November’s picks – feel free to continue interacting on any of them.

- Tantric Preaching
- Pastoring vs. Jesus
- Multi-Ethnicing a church
- I declare – “No Church Sunday”
- Pulling hearts out
