The Toronto District School Board has approved a proposal for opening Afrocentric schools this year.
The hopes are to help remedy the 40 percent drop out rate amongst black youth.
The African-centred school would teach students from junior kindergarten to Grade 8. It would have more black teachers and mentors, a focus on students’ heritage and more [...]

A Christian ‘lifestyle’?
March 10, 2008
A couple weeks ago I wrote a guest blog at Aaron Havens site, it was in response to the question he asked:
Is there such thing as a “Christian lifestyle” ?
I have a hard time with the word ‘Christian’ these days, partially because the term has been so thoroughly abused by its adherents. I also [...]
U2 3D…
February 29, 2008
For our date night yesterday we went to see U2 3D. It was great to be able to do nothing else for 80 minutes but appreciate their music (that and watch four sweaty old men prance no stage).
I’m glad they played some of their older stuff, but they’ve just got too many good tunes [...]
Beincarnation
February 8, 2008
Do you believe in Beincarnation?
I heard this creative term a number of years ago and it’s never left me.
Similar to my post on tantric preaching, beincarnation co-opts another traditionally ‘Eastern’ term - Reincarnation. I’ll assume that’s okay since Jesus was an eastern teacher…
Reincarnation is driven by the cosmic judgment of your deeds in [...]
Gospel according to Hugh Hefner…
February 7, 2008
I was flipping through an Esquire magazine at the library and saw this interview with Hugh Hefner on what He’s learned in life.
He states:
Everybody, if they’ve got their head on straight, wants to be a sexual object, among other things. They want to be attractive. Otherwise, what a sad and pathetic life. To really live [...]
Creativity revolution in China
February 3, 2008
I’m not as well-versed in the ethnic issues as many of my peers are, however I’ve been chewing on this article by Fast Company for a number of months now. Click on the caption below for the full article.
The Chinese don’t get creativity, right? Sure, they can stamp out a widget, or knock off [...]
Facebook Exegesis…
December 31, 2007
I committed an hour or two yesterday to international facebook day.
It’s amazing the level of connectivity we have today, like no other point in history.
Facebook offers some interesting ’stats’ on the networks that you’re a part of.
Missiologists often speak of how we must not only exegete the Scriptures but our culture as well. [...]
The Story of Stuff…
December 24, 2007
Go to this site to check out this viral video on “The Story of Stuff“. It’s about 20 minutes long but communicates the key messages of extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal with brilliant simplicity.
Below is one of my favorite segments of the video,
I’d love to hear what you are or or plan on doing [...]
Shopocalypse

Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the Shopocalypse (the end of humankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the fires of eternal debt.)

Sacred and Secular
December 19, 2007
Within the emerging church over the past decade there has been a return to the use of icons, images, and rituals to help point people to God.
After a long exodus of protestants sanitizing their churches and abandoning everything but the word of God, Church’s have been creating a more healthy, more tangible and more experiential [...]
