Crazy guy #1

Seth Godin posted this video about a tribe that spontaneously came together at a music festival. He insightfully points out how guy number 2 and 3 make it into a ‘movement’, while guy #49 is irrelevant.

I’m still caught on guy number one. Without the other two guys, he really just looks like one solitary crazy dude. I’ve got to believe that most people who go out on a limb like this do so sheerly for the love of what they do, regardless of what happens. I’ve also got to believe that even passionate crazy dudes feel lonely at times.

What makes you step out when no one else is?

What keeps you going when no one else seems to be joining?

Ever leave someone else hanging like a dancing fool, only to realize you were the fool for not joining in earlier?

I don’t do crazy dance stuff like that. But if you’re talking about me and my blog… I’m pretty sure most people who read my blog think I’m crazier than that guy #1.

My crazy thoughts. It may be the Holy Spirt… or it may be just who I am. But lately I’ve felt a bit like that dancer guy at the beginning… but I have no false expectations that many will join me. But I think I’ll keep dancing anyways.

    Great video!

great thoughts Jon – i wonder if everyone was like guy #1 it would be sheer beauty or total chaos?

I don’t tend to see myself as courageous enough (or is it foolhardy?) to be the first guy, most of the time. But the world definitely needs that kind of visionary leadership.
I don’t usually have the cojones to be guy #2.
But I can see myself as guy #3. And I’d rather be 3rd than 49th.
Here’s more of what I thought when I saw the vid. http://al-muses.blogspot.com/2009/06/me-three.html

Hey Al, I agree, guy #1 and #2 takes major guts. I wonder how often guy #3 bails out, and what could have been a movement, quickly fades away. I think we shouldn’t discount #49 either, maybe #49 connects 3-4 others that never would have joined.
