That’s it, man. I think if we sit down and really think creatively, we can work where we are (we don’t really have a choice!). I live in a cul-de-sac, a small one, with probably 25-30 houses. I’ve thought before about doing something like a neighborhood barbecue, it would be great. Unfortunately, being in school and all, my wife Robin and I are pretty strapped for cash. But it’s something I would love to do in the future.

The last few days I’ve been working on my car, and it’s funny how just having the hood up and hanging out around the car will attract people. My neighbor came out a few times to see what I was up to. Granted, he’s a “good ‘ol boy” from rural Kentucky where this kind of thing is standard fare, but at least I was present outside in front of my house such that if anyone wanted to, they could come chat or whatever.

Lots of little things we can do, we just have to start doing them I guess.

Hey Jake, was just thinking more on your post... I totally feel you on this... and I think my initial thought was how much we've screwed things up... but just started thinking this morning you've got to start somewhere. you're right on about incarnating Christ where we are...

what would happen if we became the outlandish neighbor that literally took down the hedges or the walls? or kept the garage door open, hung out on the porch, and bbq'd for the cul-de-sac on the front lawn?

it really is a huge challenge, but some of this stuff can often be met in the simplest of ways...

I should add that I also enjoy walking in the country, because even though it is solitary as well, you are surrounded by a great deal of nature which is very much alive. And so when I walk down a rural road, I don't feel the loneliness of a suburban sidewalk, but instead enjoy the peace and beauty of nature and experience a great deal of relaxation.

Just thought I'd add that. :)
