Questions I’ve been asking…

Some random questions recently on my mind…

– What’s the deal with hard-covered books?

– How do I pray for daily bread, when I’ve got over a week’s worth in my kitchen?

– Why can’t the government do my taxes for me?

– When will Hillary finally quit?

Who’s gonna ride your wild horses?

– What would pastors do if they weren’t allowed to speak on Sundays?

– What do homeless people think of me?

– Why do they tell us x-rays are harmless and make us put on those heavy vests?

– Jesus seemed like a fairly earthy guy. What technologies would he be using today?

Can you give me more details on your question what is with hard cover books?

  • Lon April 9, 2008, 10:02 am

haha, thanks for asking Marty… well, one, why do they merit a separate section on bestseller lists, as if the content was any different… maybe another might be why publishers milk the more expensive hardcover release first… and then release paperback copies. and now that i think about it, the environmental wastage that comes with creating hardcover books and flaps on top of them.

having said that i do appreciate the way hardcovers don’t bend up when i throw them in my backpack…

    Oh Lon,

You know I love answering your rhetorical questions! And answer them as if I were the authority on all subjects! 😀

    – What’s the deal with hard-covered books?
Seriously…release on or the other. I would prefer the hardbook at the paperback price!

    – How do I pray for daily bread, when I’ve got over a week’s worth in my kitchen?
I think praying for our “daily bread” is a constant reminder that whether we have a day’s worth or a week’s worth of supply, it all comes from God, and not from our own doing. It is a reminder we must rely on him for all supply, when we are full and empty.

    – Why can’t the government do my taxes for me?
Why can’t the government pay my taxes for me?

    – When will Hillary finally quit?
Hmmm…I go back and forth on this. I’m not sure she should drop out. The longer she’s in, the worst she looks. Which means the better Obama looks.

    – Who’s gonna ride your wild horses?
Have you seen this quote? I thought of it when I read this question, and no it doesn’t have anything to do with U2.
“…see how the flesh grows back across a wound,
    with a great vehemence,
    more strong
than the simple, untested surface before.

There’s a name for it on horses,
when it comes back darker and raised: proud flesh,

    as all flesh
is proud of its wounds, wears them
as honors given out after a battle,
small triumphs pinned to the chest-”

-JANE HERSHFIELD, FROM FOR WHAT BINDS US

    – What would pastors do if they weren’t allowed to speak on Sundays?
Try for Saturdays? Start a blog?

    – What do homeless people think of me?
I think that often. I wonder if they think I’m rude because I don’t give them money, or because I’m in my warm car when I drive by.

    – Why do they tell us x-rays are harmless and make us put on those heavy vests?
They just do that to cover up your baby making bits. Notice they don’t cover our brains or eyes. They even put little lead vests on Max when he gets xrays.

    – Jesus seemed like a fairly earthy guy. What technologies would he be using today?
you know on Bruce Almighty when bruce answers all of the prayers by email? I thought that was a clever view of technology in the heavenly realm.
But do you think Jesus would use any technology? He didn’t go to the store to get more wine at the wedding, no he turned the water into wine. He didn’t swim to the boat while the disciples were rowing against the wind, no, he took a stroll on the water instead. He did this to prove that while in the flesh he was all man, like his friends and followers, he was also more than them, more than us. He is also fully God. That’s what made people believe that he was more than the other leaders of the day.

always excellent responses Deana! Stellar had to get a chest x-ray when she had pneumonia at 13 months… it was horrible, no vest, and they had to lock her in a plastic cage with her arms up… while i was fully geared in lead…

I’m actually starting to think the elections staying heated is a bit of a good thing as well, as long as it doesn’t get nasty, it’s a good setup for the general elections i guess!

I have to ask … Being from Canada are you following the US elections because they will have a great impact on you, it is a different kind of entertainment, or other?
What I have observed is the larger portion of the country got so inundated with coverage that they are generally worn out and have lost a lot of interest.

Great questions Lon. Perhaps if Jesus were around today, he’d ride the wild horses…?

  • Lon April 14, 2008, 12:54 am

Hey Marty, I think the elections are dragging quite a number of people weary… my wife and I were just commenting on it tonight, and how it’s like reality tv. except, I do think the impact is much, much more significant…

A bit of it’s entertainment on my end, but I’m also just fascinated by the way the hearts of people are won actually. voting, like church, is something no one can force, but there’s something special when people are capable of being moved towards action and investment… I wish i could say canadian politics wasn’t even close to that exciting…

Josh – I’ve always loved the wild horses song, but I was just reading rumor is that it’s actually about an affair The Edge had with a groupie… I’m sure Jesus can still work his way somewhere into that though… haha

  • josh Allan April 15, 2008, 12:28 am

Mmm… yes. The wonderful world of American politics — we certainly like to show the best of ourselves, don’t we? 😉

I don’t want you to not be able to enjoy the Wild Horses anymore, Lon! I looked it up for you, and fortunately I’m pretty sure Mick Jagger wrote it, possibly inspired by having to leave his son behind when he left for a tour. (Even if not, that’s definitely a nicer reason to like the song! lol)

  • josh Allan April 15, 2008, 12:31 am

Mmm… we’re definitely talking about different Wild Horses songs! Haha!! Nevermind… your tune probably IS about a groupie. lol

  • Lon April 15, 2008, 8:49 am

Hey Josh, the Jagger song’s good too. Thanks for looking into it for me!
