Facebook Exegesis…

Date December 31, 2007

facebook logo icon I committed an hour or two yesterday to international facebook day.

It’s amazing the level of connectivity we have today, like no other point in history.

Facebook offers some interesting ’stats’ on the networks that you’re a part of.

Missiologists often speak of how we must not only exegete the Scriptures but our culture as well. I thought I’d do some comparisons between the seminary I’m a part of (Tyndale), and the metropolis of Toronto in which I live.

Top Political Views
Tyndale: Conservative, Moderate, Other
Toronto: Other, Liberal, Very Liberal

Top Movies
Tyndale: Moulin Rouge, Lord of the Rings, Braveheart
Toronto: Scarface, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction

Top Books
Tyndale: The Bible, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings
Toronto: Harry Potter, Angels and Demons, and 1984

None of this is exactly scientific, but shouldn’t we be concerned that the future Christian leaders of tomorrow are so far disconnected from the heart of the city we’re in?

Here are some places we converge:

Interests - Music and reading
Music - Radiohead, Coldplay, U2, and Jazz
TV - 24, House, Grey’s Anatomy, and Family Guy (at least we’re all being honest here)

Is there anything at all we can do with this information?
