True community…

I’ve been re-reading Houses that Change the World by Wolfgang Simson as I’ve been looking for more clarity going forward in life.

Here’s a quote in the book by Art Katz, a Messianic Jew, where he speaks of true community

Community life pulverizes your old ego in the power of the Spirit of God, and rescues you from just living a miserable private life, where after loving each other during a one-hour worship service a week we rush home to water our flowers, sit on our porch, eat our individual meals and wash our car. We need to start to function as part of the fellowship of the redeemed. As the redeemed, we do not go home after a service, we are at home with each other.

Update: You can download the entire book legitimately here for free. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

    Lon,

I just wanted to let you know that I can never comment on your other site. Not sure what is going on.

But I do enjoy your blog and you have such a cute family!

I love this article! We need to get back to true Community and the Power of the Holy Spirit so that Jesus is magnified and captives are set free!

Heather, thanks for staying tuned… yeah a couple other people mentioned to me the comments issue on the other blog… i don’t know how to fix it… it only applies to certain web browsers though, i’ll put up a side comment warning people in a moment.

and thanks for the facebook add!

Ken - quite the site you’ve got there. thanks so much for dropping a comment. I think most of us are desperately in need of true community, we’re just so busy it’s hard to notice. I guess this whole online network helps, but it still doesn’t replace real direct in-person community…

Lon, I finished reading this last week. What a great read and very thought provoking as I wrestle with my next steps in community here in LA. Do you know of any good communities there? Let’s keep spurring each other on to follow JESUS as LORD.

    Hi Lon,

Houses that Change the World is my #1 favorite book :) Now, I’m reading The Starfish Manifesto. My head spins and my heart says “Yes, let Your kingdom come!!”

Merry Christmas and warmest greeting from tropical Indonesia.
I wonder… How does snow feel like??? (curious:)

Hey Ken, awesome. LA… i’ve been there a few times and visited several churches ie. mosaic, saddleback, dreamcenter, evergreen, newsong, etc. but i didn’t really get a chance to visit smaller communities that haven’t popped up on the radar yet. let me know if you discover some interesting ones…

sukianto - it’s a great book isn’t it? he’s got quite the prophetic writing style. do you blog as well? snow feels great… for about 5 seconds… haha

    Happy new year Lon!

A really great prophetic book! You are actually the first person I can talk with about this book. I hang out with several young church leaders in town but no one seems to get this yet. May be: 1) I’m too idealistic. 2) the book is too thick, 300+ pages in Bahasa Indonesia. 3) They are all still plugged in to the “Matrix”. Watch the movie? You know what I mean, then :)

    I don’t blog… yet. Any suggestion for a newbie??

Hav you finished The Starfish Manifesto? I’ve been reading it since July 07 n have been jumping all over the book (so thick, I’m taking a break for a moment now). The last chapter is great; Wolfgang proposes a meeting in Antiochia in 2009.

Snow feels great for only 5 secs??!! But it looks so “cool” from here… ha3x
    I enjoy your pics
