Bread or Beauty?
November 12, 2007
I’ve been volunteering weekly at Sanctuary for the last few months.
The first time I was there, I was surprised how many guys were playing bridge…
I ask, “Where’d you learn to play bridge?” (As I’m thinking only grannies play bridge).
“Jail”, one guy says
“oh”.
I talk to another dude who’s sketching and has some wild tattoos on his arms. He tells me how he carved the tattoos into his arm himself.
“Cool, where on earth did you learn to do that?”
“In prison”
“oh”
A recent quote I’ve come across several times recently - “The poor need beauty as much as they need bread“

reminds me of this Neil Cole quote :
“Bad people make good soil - there’s a lot of fertilizer in their lives.”

That’s an awesome quote Tony! I’ve got to use that some day!
