Hey guys, thanks for commenting. It was inspiring in an odd kind of way. Ain't it always cool to hear that someone cares more about us than we do ourselves sometimes?

Alan... is that a blog comment from the day after your wedding!? glad to hear I wasn't the only one though!

wow, what he wrote to you gives me goose bumps. painful to hear at the beginning, but how cool that someone is that intentional to make sure you are doing your best...

This reminded me of a paragraph of John Stott's communion message at Urbana '73. In reference to verse about a kernel of wheat going into the ground he said:

The death we die may take one of a thousand different forms. Basically, we die to ourselves. In our career, we may be called to die to some cherished academic ambition in order to give our lives in practical service, or it may be the exact opposite: that
Christ may call us to die to an activist role in order to qualify academically to do research, to teach or to write. Again, it may be that we are called to die to a social life in order to occupy some lonely outpost for
Jesus. Or it may be the exact opposite: that we are called to die to the love of our own company in order to serve in the hurly-burly of the city, factory or hospital. It may be that we are called to die to the freedom of a single life in order to marry. Or it may be the exact opposite: that we are called to die to marriage in order to live a single life. There is no Christian stereotype in this or in any other aspect of the Christian life. Only the principle is clear: In order to follow Jesus we have to die to self.
