Practicing Sabbath…
October 4, 2007

A few thoughts that came out of a discussion I was in yesterday…
Sabbath is suppose to be counter cultural - the Israelites were known as people who took a day out to rest in God
“I use to believe that Sabbath was a form of punishment from God so that I couldn’t get my work done”
Sabbath is a reminder of our liberation from work
Sabbath is a day about rest, joy, and celebration - not something we’re designed to be reluctant about
A minister from the UK said that though Monday’s are the typical day of rest for pastors, he said he practiced sabbath on Tuesday’s instead because he was too tired on Monday’s to enjoy it.
Sabbath challenges if we really believe God still works today, or if we’re simply Christian Deists
Sabbath reminds us that we’re not the savior of the world
