Very interesting insight from Alan, thanks for sharing. I'll have to use that in a message someday! If the church is the institution or the traditions, I'd completely agree, I'm not all that interested in committing to it either. If it's the people and the community, I'd like to say I am but I know I have lots of room to grow as well. And yes! read the book! i'd love to hear your thoughts!Shaula - it would be beautiful wouldn't it!! I'd love to lead a community of church planters - where everyone was connecting to people in their own context effectively and wonderfully... I'll definitely be tuning into what your community is up to!

Joeie, thanks for keeping the discussions lively!

I’ve never quite heard of that description of our church! A group of people who are planted into a community with the desire to transform. That's what we are working towards.

“It makes me wonder what would happen if instead of planting churches, I just planted myself into a community.”

Great thought, but wouldn’t a church planted out of that mindset be truly beautiful? Reading your follow-up comments to people's comments is just as interesting as reading your blog. You remind me a lot of Alan - you can always scrounge up a thing or two (which always seems insightful!) to throw back.Anyways, interesting post. I was talking to Alan about your church and the differences b/w our two churches. In a very, very, very general sense...
We've got a great bunch of people who are really really committed to the Church... but not necessarily Jesus.
You've got a great bunch of people who are really really committed to Jesus... but not necessarily the Church. It's tough to find the balance b/w both. From where I stand in my life right now, the issues I face the most is surveying the surrounding environment, seeing what's been built and is being built upon... and trying to weave the two commitments together.Meh. :) Sounds like a good book! I may pick it up for summer reading. (Haha, that sounded so casual; I mean that as someone who has read books that have shaped and molded their lives, so I totally get what you mean about this book.) :P

Haha. I've appreciated reading his personal journals. As for the last question... well followers of Christ have been living out their faith for generations. Perhaps you and I should be saying, "What would happen if I allowed God to transform that next part of my life?"

Soren is an interesting guy.
