Simply Living…
June 10, 2007
So I bragged about being able to teach about anything, and ended up getting assigned to teach through a series on financial stewardship. I know nothing about finances. Off the top I could not think of a more boring topic.
Yet it’s something that has been shaping my soul the last while, and how money touches so much of our spirituality. I’ve spun the idea of financial stewardship around and titled it Simply Living.
Here’s a blurb for the series.
I’ve got bills to pay, does God really need me to pay His? Are the things I treasure intrinsic or the product of corporate marketing? How much will ever be enough? How can I give what I barely have? Are there better ways of living than through acquiring and accumulating? What would the world look like if Christians were actually generous? Together we will wrestle through what it truly means to fully and simply live.
As well as topics to be covered over four weeks. (I’ve enlisted many others to team-teach this with me, since I am an amateur practitioner of this stuff)
Cash & the Kingdom
Tithing when it’s tight and pastoral perspectives
Communal / Carless / Creative living
Entrepreneurialism & Wealth
Giving beyond operational budgets, but to vision and mission
How to give when I barely got
Sabbath - living fully without accumulating
What increases faster - Compounded interest or compounded Generosity?
