And so it begins…

I was reading up on where my daughter is developmentally, and according to this website, it states that as she enters the fourth month,

“She is starting to realize that she can influence the world”

Don’t tell me she isn’t preparing for world domination here…

I wonder when so many of us stop thinking we can influence the world…

This reminded me of that quote from astronaut farmer, “when i was a kid they used to tell me I could be anything I wanted to be…somewhere along the line we stopped believing we could do anything…and if we don’t have our dreams we have nothing.”

I can hear the evil laugh…mwahaha…

I think people tell us to ‘grow up’.. or ‘get real’. It’s a sad thing. When we’re kids, we talk about being ninjas or astronauts.. We want to do something amazing and cool. But adults look down to them and say ‘Well, they’re kids..but when they’re adults, they’ll realize that’s just plain silly. The world doesn’t work like that.’

Which makes me wonder.. What does the world work like? Who decided that? I mean, you can throw in God, but I think he left it up to us. If the world ‘doesn’t work like that’..then change how the world works.

Also..and I think this is really it.. Why do we stop thinking we can be world changers? Because when we get older, we get responsible. In a bad way as well as a good. We know the good way, but the bad way says ‘You’ve got a boyfriend/girlfriend now. You’ve got a car now. You’ve got college classes now. You’ve got a house. A family. A….’ And suddenly we get so caught into holding on to what we have..clinging so desperatly to what we’ve managed to build..we forget the big dreams in favor clinging tooth and nail onto what we have.

Well, she’s a beautiful girl, bud. Just never stop telling her that she can change the world. Never stop telling her to dream.

Deana, you’re right… what would we have without dreams?.. it’s a very scary thought!

Josh… there is something a little crazy in her eyes isn’t there?

Bryan – thanks for swinging by. The world sure does need some fixing. I constantly feel it creeping up on me calling for me to live for less… I guess ‘reality’ hits many of us, and somewhere along the way we trade our dreams for obligations. sad thing is they’re often someone else’s vision of life as it should be, and not what’s in most of our heart of hearts… thanks for the reminder and words encouragement!
