Hey Jean, Jesus being the greatest leader of all time, I think every follower of Jesus is a leader, or at least has leadership potential within them...

I've never heard of TEAL, i just quickly checked out the site, looks interesting... i find more and more research on leadership today, is simply revealing what Jesus had always said...

This is a fascinating discussion! The basic dafinition of a leader is that he or she has followers (Drucker?) and some the greatest leaders have influence but lacked intergrity. Jesus seems so much more than a Leader King, Saviour, Friend Lover, Lord of all-many leaders but only one Jesus.
When I set out in search of definitions I found more than I expected and very directly related to your starting point. including a study of Jesus as leader. This is a thoroughly worth while site* for anyone involved in Christian Leadership but perhaps you arealready involved with it? It covers the familiar stuff from the Social Sciences and much more.
I just Googled 'leadership definition and came up with the *TEAL Trust- Have you seen it ? what do you think?

Sean, thanks for dropping by. I thought the picture was totally profound...

Jonathan, thanks for tuning in. You're right, faith plays a big part in things. I'd say that it's not only those who are studying theology, but even most secular experts would say Jesus was one of the greatest leaders of all time. Jim Collins would call him a level five leader. Regardless of what people think of him, he has marked our world as we know it more than any one individual in history.

All the leadership stuff aside though, sometimes I have the same doubts, but as I follow the ways of Jesus, for some reason, I find myself becoming more, and more, the person I've always longed to become. Thanks for commenting Jonathan, and feel free to chime in here any other time as well!

Interesting post.

I tend to sit on the fence with issues such as this - we are never really going to know what happened during the time Jesus was alive, so it therefore depends on how much faith you have in the version of history told to us by scripture.

It's a great question to pose to somebody studying theology though - was Jesus a good leader?

Albert, don't worry even the best of us get into funks... but it's always helpful to take a step back and look beyond ourselves...

As the world judges Jesus was not a successful leader, choosing humility and servanthood and even his closest followers disappeared at the end. (But wasn't it Pilate who washed his hands??)
Jesus called us to follow as he did in obedience to the Father and empowered by the Spirit
I think you are right about seeing reality but it is looking at each person with Gods eyes and loving them with His love; so good leaders are tuned to Gods wavelength rather than acting on their dtrength---
