Rob Bell Resources
November 17, 2006
Alright. To follow up the Mosaic Movement Resources as promised, here’s some articles, audio’s and video’s for you Rob Bell fans. I’ve been downloading all of their sermons since back in 2002, but again, to be on the safe side, all links here are just what’s currently available on the web.
For those of you who aren’t up to speed on Rob and Mars Hill, I’d say their the Mac of the megachurch world. clean and simple. Rob Bell’s an excellent communicator who does his homework, especially with contextualizing ancient Jewish culture. Their church is legend for exploding by word of mouth as Bell preached through Leviticus the first year.
Nooma video’s have been the latest craze. People thought I was being silly for spending money on them a few years back. You can borrow them from me if you’re in the area.
I’ll try to keep this resource page up to date, let me know if there’s anything worthwhile that I’m missing. Feel free to share this link on your sites/blogs.
*Note, I only link to resources that are already available on the web and I don’t have a practice of distributing or re-distributing any content.

I’ve heard people call Rob Bell the modern-day Billy Graham.
November 17th, 2006 at 1:56 pm
wow Thanks Lon!
November 17th, 2006 at 2:03 pm
awesome stuff - thanks for posting it!
Msg #1 of that Communicating Christ in Contemporary Culture series is an incredible talk - I have given it away to a mess of people and listen to it every few months…..
November 18th, 2006 at 8:41 am
Hey eBrian, yeah there was an article out comparing the two a while back, but looks like it’s been archived and inaccessible to the public.
If anyone knows of any other resources out there, i’d be more than happy to add them to this list.
Tony, thanks for the tip. with all the goods i’ve got, i’ve yet to have a chance to listen to that one. I’ll definitely be shortly!
November 20th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
Favorite Rob Bell quote, “Are you smok’in what you’re selling” in reference to Christian Leadership.
November 20th, 2006 at 2:02 pm
Hey Marty, that’s definitely one of my all time favorite quotes from Bell. I’ve used it once or twice myself in a message. I think I’ve read Brian McLaren quoting that one too before.

wow, thanks for this. i heard the willow creek series once and am glad to have them at my disposal again, they were my first intro to rob and i loved them. i am going to the conference in january and am really, really pumped about it
December 17th, 2006 at 3:00 am
thanks for all these links– some really great stuff out there! i was wondering if anyone has been able to listen to “mastering the art of living”? i downloaded the huge file, only to be asked for a password to unzip the file…
December 17th, 2006 at 9:20 am
Hey Mike, I haven’t downloaded this one myself… I downloaded it years ago when it was available on the mhbcmi website. i found this link off of some message board.
i did jot down the password though, try selfdevelop.info
and Lacey, that’s awesome that you’re going. I can’t make it, so be sure to jot down plenty of notes and post’em! hopefully they do it again and I”ll make my way there.
December 17th, 2006 at 5:57 pm
for sure
they will definitely be posted for all to enjoy.
December 23rd, 2006 at 6:10 pm
Lon,
Thanks for listing all of this! I’m a big Rob Bell fan and I’m trying to gather a collection of his audio & video resources.
I missed the Flames of Heaven series at Mars Hill’s website. Is the one you have here the same but all in one file? The one from Mars Hill was at least a 2 part sermon series, of which I only have the first one.
Thanks!
-Dan
December 23rd, 2006 at 10:30 pm
Hey Dan, the flames of heaven listed here is more of a summary message Bell did at another church.
It was originally a four-part series actually. I don’t see it available on their website for purchase, I suppose I could email it to you if you’d like..?
January 24th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
The Rob Bell Nooma video links aren’t working, could you send me them plz at ryanmcluen@yahoo.com. I am interested in watching them, because I have only seen 1 or 2
January 24th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
hey. check out sexgodtour.com for info about rob’s upcoming university tour in feb/march. it also includes a download of the first chapter of the new book!
January 25th, 2007 at 12:03 am
Ryan, thanks for dropping by and letting me know about the broken links. I updated the few of the links, but some of them still look like they’re missing. I’m no media distributor, i only post them as I find them. If you really want them, you should look into purchasing them.
Lacey, thanks for the sharing! I just downloaded the pdf, i’ll be sure to be buying the book. I’ll be posting your contribution to the page in a moment!
January 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Wow, this a fantastic resource.. thanks for sharing. Perchance, do you have the stats PDF from the Calling All Peacemakers series? Mars Hill has redone their site and that file is no longer there.
January 31st, 2007 at 12:03 am
Hey Winston, thanks for letting me know. I just uploaded the pdf i originally downloaded and updated the link.
thanks for dropping by. make yourself at home.
January 31st, 2007 at 12:11 am
Lon,
Check your link… Doesn’t seem to be working.
January 31st, 2007 at 12:42 am
it’s working now.
February 10th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
I have to thank you for putting all of this stuff together in one easy place for all of us to enjoy.
One question though, is there a way that I can get a bigger pic of the “everything is spiritual” pic you have up there with all the boards together? Have you heard anything on a dvd release date?
Thanks again.
Shalom,
matthew
February 10th, 2007 at 11:16 pm
P.S. The Mastering the Art of Living stuff has been taken down.
February 11th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
hey i was wondering, if you might be able to email me a few messages from years past. I have a good total of the whole lot but am missing a few of them to complete series. Could you email me to let me know if you would be able to email them to me. thanks a ton, bill
February 11th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Oh by the way i went to the sex god tour thing here at University of Michigan, very cool. Also they showed the new nooma called “YOU” which was very cool. He didn’t talk about his book at all but instead did a simple question and answer for an hour on anything you wanted to ask him. Some very cool questions with some of course fun answers. but if you get a chance it is a very cool event.
Bill
February 13th, 2007 at 8:44 am
Matt thanks for dropping by, i just updated the link on the ‘everything is spiritual’ image to point to the original larger/clearer image.
Hey Bill, I’d love to see the event, but unfortunately i’m up in Canada and doesn’t look like he’ll be making any stops here. I could send you a few if there’s anything specific that you’re looking for but i’d rather just be the linker than a content distributor. Both the noomas and archived messages I bought myself… the sermon’s are only a buck each after all.
February 16th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Thanks for all the downloads! I put most of them on my iPod and listen to them over and over. Lots of wisdom there! Rob really has a way of making lessons from the bible apply to our lives today.
The link for “Mastering the Art of Living” does not work. Are there any other ways to get this series???
February 16th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
There’s a good portion of Nooma video “Breathe” on myspace. It isn’t the total film, but does give you a good 10 minutes.
see here
February 20th, 2007 at 7:09 am
You can find a short video from Rob Bell’s Sex God tour at the University of Michigan at this link
Shalom,
Misha
P.S. You’ve done great work compiling this information about Rob Bell!
February 20th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Hey Brian, it should be available for purchase on the website. if not you should be able to request it from them. it’s definitely worth the purchase.
and thanks for the Breathe link as well.
Misha, i’ve also included your sexgod youtube clip, thanks!
March 2nd, 2007 at 1:58 pm
lon,
i found your site via one of stephen shields posts long ago. i just came across this resource page today. this is extensive! if i find anything else, i’ll be sure to send it to you. thanks for this. most of these i had found, but some are new.
were you at the ‘isn’t she beautiful’ conference?
brad
March 9th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Hey Brad, thanks for checking in. I wish I could’ve made it to the conference, but unfortunately Rob doesn’t seem to swing by Canada often. I’ll make my pilgrimage down there some day…
March 15th, 2007 at 2:01 am
Along with everyon else, thanks for your site. It has been mentioned before about “About Mastering the Art of Living”. Was it any good? Can it still be purchased? How as I can’t see it anywhere on MHBC website. I could call but I’m from Australia which makes it awkward.
Thanks
March 15th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
PS I found the area on Mars Hill for ordering Mastering the Art of Living & have commenced to download the 15 messages. Look forward to listening to them. There are quite a few other messages on MHBC website (not the 12 most recent messages). Can anyone recommend any others that particulalry spoke to them? I know it’s an individual thing.
March 15th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Hey, great site. Do you know if you will ever get the audio for the Sex God QandA?
March 20th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Mark,
The New Exodus series is a great one to listen to as well. It’s kind of the setup for what they’re doing now with XYZ.
To All:
I find that more and more I’m finding ways to apply what Rob is talking about from week to week. I’ll hear something, or have an idea for something for a youth program that relates back to something Rob said in a teaching. I would find it incredibly useful to have transcripts of the sermons to search through. Anyone else with me? Does anyone know of a place to get them currently?
March 20th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Sorry for the delayed reply.
Mark - A revolutionary Christmas is also a good series to purchase that I felt was very enlightening.
Dan - unless someone bootleg’s it, I don’t think there will be an official session available since it is a different Q&A in each stop of the tour.
Winston - Great idea. I’ve wrote some notes down as I’ve extracted material for my own teaching/learning, but I’ve never seen official transcripts. I can post some notes/quotes of my own up sometime as well.
March 22nd, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Hey,
I like the idea of transcripts and stuff. But, the real question is where is this Erwin McManus thing from?
March 22nd, 2007 at 7:10 pm
If we can get a few folks together and rotate, I’d be willing to be part of a transcribing group. Maybe if we had 4-6 people, so that we’d only have to do it every so often. Any takers?
March 23rd, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Hey Matt… I’ve had the McManus clip for years now, I don’t really remember where I got it from now. I think there use to be a similar video of the audio clip on his main site before.
Winston, i’m up for it, if there are others. how would you want to implement it? a seperate blog? e-group? google docs?

Lori -
I know Rob is about to embark on The Gods Aren’t Angry Tour. I seem to recall a sermon series of a similar title. I’ve done a lot of searching online and haven’t been able to find anything. Do you know of or have a series with a similar title? I’d love to listen to the sermon series if I could get my hands on it… Let me know if you can help…
Thanks!
July 29th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Hey Sue - You’re right, Rob seems to typically tour with stuff he’s done during his regular sermon series, but I can’t quite pinpoint where this one is from…. might have to wait till the reviews to hear what it’s all about!
August 27th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
I actually heard this gods arent angry tour is supposed to be stuff that is brand new for him..
p.s. is it possible to download these sermons, i e sheep goats and us so I can listen to them without sitting in front of my computer all day..?

November 7th, 2007 at 9:52 am
Hey Johnny5, I was just looking for the same thing, i added a couple links with good notes. thanks for coming by!

This is great. we went to listen to bell last night in seattle and i was stunned…so good. what a great teacher! thanks for these links. i hope you keep updating (in other words, do the hard work for the rest of us!). we are hoping he comes to canada next tour.
November 12th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
do you know where you can get the old mars hill messages? i.e. the leviticus study and the old series listed on the sermon archieve.
thanks
November 12th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
That would be sweet to find that first year of services, but I wonder if the only place would be to actually buy them from Mars Hill…or to find someone that has a secret stash of all the Mars Hill teachings somewhere.
November 13th, 2007 at 12:18 am
someone please do some research on finding those teachings. i have looked for while online with not many results. let me know what you find.
November 13th, 2007 at 1:22 am
Great list Lon - thanks.
November 29th, 2007 at 12:21 am
Do you know the name of the track on the Everything is spiritual dvd?
November 29th, 2007 at 6:54 am
Hey Garth, according to wikipedia:
Rob Bell is a fan of the Icelandic band Sigur Rós; he used their song Takk in his Everything is Spiritual tour… could that be the one on the dvd?
November 29th, 2007 at 11:52 am
No, I checked, and It’s not. I even asked Rob bell at the God’s aren’t angry tour and he didn’t know, so I think it’s just going to take someone recognizing the song. Thanks though.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:13 am

I haven’t everything here but I do think anyone who is into Rob Bell (positive or negative) should have a look at this YouTube link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wSAEezBc3s
I personally like a lot of Rob Bell says and own both of his books and have watched a few of the Nooma videos before. But, as we all Christ-followers we stumble. This is an example of one of Rob’s trips. The only problem is that we let pride get in the way and refuse to admit that we were wrong.
February 7th, 2008 at 2:34 am
Rob Bell? I just don’t get it. I’ve never had problems with being relevant, or a pharisee, or whatever the accusation that Brian McLaren, Rob Bell and the like would call me.
I live in LA, and there’s more than enough trendiness around here. Rob’s got cool clothes, cool videos, and coolness coming out of every pore. I want truth, expository preaching and bible-saturated character. If you put Von Rad in Hollister and give him Starbucks, you don’t get any of those. Rob Bell strikes out.
April 10th, 2008 at 10:14 pm

I think the music track from the DVD “Everything is Spiritual” is from the band, The Album Leaf. The song is almost a dead ringer for a song of theirs called The Outer Banks but not quite. Does anyone know the exact track? I know that The Album Leaf tours with Sigur rose frequently and that Rob is a fan of both.
April 27th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Contacted nooma customer service and they said it’s an independent artist who wished to remain anonymous.
June 13th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
does anyone know what song is playing in the trailer for “the gods aren’t angry”?
http://store.thegodsarentangry.com/?adwords&gclid=CKK3laeo8pMCFR30IgodTFcQWQ#watch
it’s amazing, and sounds like sigur ros, but i’ve never heard it.
